Prayers - April 2017
Prayer is vital to the work of All We Can and we are encouraged by our supporters and partners who join with us in prayer.
Each month we highlight the key areas that we invite you to join us in praying for.
The prayer points for this month can be found below.
This month we pray for the countries affected by chronic food shortages, who are on the brink of, or are experiencing famine. All We Can is responding through its East Africa Famine Appeal. Find out more here.
In March, the UN has declared areas in South Sudan to be suffering from famine. There are around 100,000 people facing starvation and a further 1 million are considered to be on the brink of famine. This is a dire and urgent situation, which All We Can is responding to. The country has been at war since 2013, resulting in over 3 million people fleeing their homes. This means people have been unable to cultivate the land and grow the food they need. Please pray for peace to come to South Sudan and that people get the food relief they need.
Yemen’s conflict started in 2014 and still continues today. People are struggling to access the food they need and around 2 million children are estimated to be starving in the country. This is a major crisis, which All We Can is responding to. Please pray for the vulnerable families facing starvation, for the aid to get to where it is most needed and for a peaceful solution to the conflict.
Somalia has been suffering from a severe drought. There has nearly been a total crop failure across the country. 444,000 people have been displaced because of the drought and 363,000 children are acutely malnourished. Please pray for the families affected by the drought, for a change in the weather so that the land may produce crops again and for those in need that they will get the help they need.
Our eyes are open to the pain of our
brothers and sisters in East Africa.
With widespread food scarcity,
we see an emerging need as people face
extreme hunger and malnourishment.
In this bleak and desperate situation,
we join our voices together and turn to you.
Be present O God, in this time of need.
Thank you for All We Can’s response.
Be with those on the front line,
protect and guide their steps.
Help them to reach those people
who are in the greatest need.
May we are moved by your compassion
and see an outpouring of generosity.
We pray for change in this situation,
for relief to come,
and disaster to be averted.
In Jesus’ name we pray.
All We Can and the World Church Relationships Team of the Methodist Church in Britain are calling for support for this urgent appeal to respond to help avert famine in countries on the verge of disaster. Do all you can and find out more
