This month we pray for our world leaders, recognising their ability to make a positive change in the lives of those living in poverty, and we also pray for the upcoming elections in the UK.
The UK has been a world leader in committing to spending 0.7% of GNI on overseas development assistance. By meeting this global promise agreed in the United Nations every year since 2013, the UK has helped alleviate global poverty and has supported some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Please pray for the political parties of the UK as they form their manifestos, that they may uphold the UK’s commitment to its global neighbours. Also pray for the people of the UK to value this commitment as a demonstration of their solidarity, friendship and love to those in need.

World leaders have the ability to bring about significant change for those who are vulnerable and living in poverty in our world, whether that be through the trade arrangements they make, how they approach resolutions to conflict, or the stance they hold on their national borders. Please pray for our global leaders, that they may have wisdom in their decisions, that they might be moved with compassion and seek God for guidance in all that they do.
People will shortly be heading to the voting booths to elect their local political representatives and Members of Parliament. Thank God for the opportunity we have to be involved in a free and democratic political system, for each of us to have wisdom in the people and policies we decide to back and for divisions to heal in communities that are fractured.

You commanded us to love our neighbour as ourselves
and instructed us to pursue your Kingdom of justice here on earth
