The Wilderness Shall Be Glad - Chris Duffett

Art Auction: ‘The Wilderness Shall Be Glad’ by Revd Chris Duffett

In celebration of The Big Church Sing Easter Special, artist, minister and evangelist Revd Chris Duffett has generously donated this stunning artwork for auction. Painted on chunky canvas using acrylic paints, spray and inks, this painting measures 100 by 120 cm. You can find out more about Chris and his artwork on his website.

‘This painting is about the good news of Easter. Jesus being alive means we have an eternal hope! As we emerge out of the wilderness of Covid-19 I felt a hope rise in me that the dry desert will blossom. The scene is painted in 3 parts to symbolise the transforming power of the 3 days of Easter. From dry wilderness, then rain and storms to a blossoming fruitful scene! The painting was inspired by Isaiah 35: ‘The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing… strengthen the weak hands, and make firm feeble knees. Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not!…” Each one of us is, I believe, called to announce the “new thing” God is doing. As people suffer with anxiety and hopelessness may the church arise to declare “do not fear!”‘ – Chris Duffett
