Emergency Appeal: Myanmar Earthquake

At about 1pm local time on Friday 28 March, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar with the epicentre near Mandalay, the second largest city in the country.

More than 3000 people are now reported to have died, with many hundreds still missing. People are without food, shelter and adequate sanitation, and we're appealing for your support to help meet the urgent need of people whose lives have been devastated by the earthquake.

Organisations in the region are providing temporary shelters, clean drinking water, food and medical assistance for those affected right now, but we need your help to raise vital funds for their urgent, life-saving work.

Disruption to essential services including road infrastructure and communication systems is making the situation extremely difficult for emergency workers – already faced with a challenging environment.

The population of Myanmar is experiencing severe hardship, with an ongoing civil war, high levels of poverty and almost 3 million displaced people. The earthquake has hit at a time when it’s reported that around 20 million people in Myanmar were already in need of aid.

The full extent of the toll is hard to assess and may take time, especially for the affected populations close to the earthquake epicentre. Give today to help our partners undertake their life-saving work.
