Travel will be all be by train and whilst the route is yet to be confirmed, here is the outline of where we expect to go. We expect the total cost to be around £350 (one way).
– Day 1 (Sun 11th August): London (and elsewhere in the UK) to Amsterdam (4/5 hours from London)
– Day 2 (Mon 12th): Amsterdam to Hamburg (5/6 hours travel time)
– Day 3 (Tues 13th): Hamburg to Copenhagen (7 hours travel time)
– Day 4 (Weds 14th): Copenhagen to Gothenburg, to arrive in time for the opening of Conference on the Weds evening.
We are planning to gather each evening for worship, games and food with Christian brothers and sisters in each of the cities where we stop overnight.
We are arranging accommodation en route in church halls / floors, but also inviting fellow pilgrims to book their own accommodation if you’d rather stay somewhere more luxurious or comfortable!
The World Methodist Conference is themed ‘On the Move’ and includes a focus on pilgrimage and migration, which is one of the motivations for our journey. Once our little pilgrimage arrives in Gothenburg, the All We Can team will join the World Methodist Conference (find out more about the Conference and register for your place here) and we’d love for you to join us on our stall at various points throughout the event to share your pilgrimage stories and reflect on the sessions together.
Our hosts are also encouraging people to make the most of their time in Sweden, to travel on or use the time for holiday. The All We Can team will be returning (by train) over Sunday 18th and Monday 19th August and you’d be welcome to join us for the return trip too!
We expect the total cost of transport (one way) to be around £350. This does not include accommodation (though we are hoping to provide a free accommodation stop each evening, which may involve sleeping on a church floor!), nor does it include the registration fee for the Conference, cost of accommodation in Gothenburg, or return journey.
We recognise, therefore, that this whole venture could be an expensive one for some people and suggest speaking to your local church, circuit or District to see if they can help fund, or set up a fundraising page to raise money to help cover your costs. Get in touch if you’d like to discuss these options with the team.
