Why is this important?

What do you do when you’ve done something that was really exciting? Or when you’ve tasted something so delicious? Do you keep it to yourself? Do you tell anyone who can listen how good it was? Have you ever talked to someone who learnt something new that they couldn’t help but tell you all about it? Sharing the feelings that come from something good in your life, from a new game, food or relationship is a really natural way to connect with other people. It might be the only time they hear about this good thing.…wouldn’t it be a shame if they never heard about it?

Question

Think about your favourite food, game or TV show, what would it feel like if you found out everyone knew about it but no one had told you?

What is good about your relationship with God? How does it make you feel? How do you find different ways to connect with God? What do you find easy? What is more difficult?

It might be that it’s easier to show someone than use words to describe it! (I’d much rather someone gave me a piece of chocolate than tried to make me love it by describing it to me!)

Suggestion

Plan a trip with a friend!

What can you share about God? Is there something that happens at your church that you could invite someone to experience? Is there somewhere you go that is so big or beautiful it makes your heart feel big and warm that you could take someone to see and explain how it reminds you of God?

If you bake, maybe you could make them their favourite thing and then experience that together.

Prayer Prompt

Sharing about God is a natural part of your relationship. Like when a cup is so full of water, it starts to overflow and splash everywhere. You’re not trying to force anyone to agree with you…you’re sharing something that is so delicious, so exciting or so reassuring you can’t HELP but say or show.

Find somewhere that is comfortable and safe to sit or curl up. Let yourself relax and breathe. Notice what it feels like for your breath to go in and out of your body. It’s ok for your brain to be busy but see if you can let the other thoughts float into the background. They’ll still be there when you’re finished.

In that space, say to God - ‘fill me up’ and let the words echo in the quiet.

I wonder what that will feel like.

Why is this important?

God wants everyone, all creation, to be in relationship with God. And you’re invited to be part of this! There are so many ways in which we can share our faith in God with other people. Sometimes this is about creating the opportunity for conversations about faith. At other times it is noticing the everyday opportunities. It’s not about having all the answers, it might just be about sharing wonder at God’s creation or a belief that everyone has equal worth in God’s eyes. By sharing what we believe we enable God to be part of the conversation – and who knows what will happen?!

Question

Where love is, God is. Where can you see signs of hope and love in your community or school? How could you describe these signs to your friends to help them see that God is important in your life?

OR

Can you think of one time of when you realised that God was important in your life? How would you tell this story to a friend who asked you what you believe about God?

Suggestion

Think of something in the world or your community that really matters to you. It might be tackling climate change or ending racism, for example. How might you explain to people why your faith affects your care for the world or your passion for justice? Conversations with other people about what inspires us and drives us can help us all explore the values and beliefs we hold. They can be an opportunity to share our faith deeply and naturally.

Prayer Prompt

Find a song you enjoy – this doesn’t have to be a church song, just one which makes you feel happy, at peace, fully you. As you listen to it, pray that God will help you to recognise God’s presence in the everyday, that God is there in conversations even before us, and is inviting us to join in.

Why is this important?

God wants each and every one of us, and all creation itself to be in relationship with God - and that includes you!

How can you share that invitation with other people? You might be able to create an opportunity for a conversation about faith with a friend, family-member, or even a stranger (providing its a safe place to do so). At other times, you can look out for everyday opportunities to say something about the love of God that you experience. It’s not about having all the answers, it might just be about sharing wonder at God’s creation or a belief that everyone has equal worth in God’s eyes. By sharing what we believe we enable God to be part of the conversation – and who knows what will happen?!

Question

How would you describe love to the children and young people in your group?
What words do you associate with love?
How do you articulate the way that God is important in your life?
Can you think of one time of when you realised that God was important in your life? How would you tell this story in a way that someone else would see how important your faith is to you?
When has your faith made a difference to how you live or a big (or small!) life decision you have made? Could you talk about this?
