So much seems uncertain – the political future of our nation hangs in the balance, many of us are anxious about the future of our churches, and none of us know exactly what 2019 has in store. Amongst all that uncertainty, it seems more important than ever that we find solid ground to stand on, find something we can rely on, a firm foothold from which we can spring forward into the new challenges ahead…
For that reason, it seems fitting that this year’s ECG Conference is themed ‘Solid Ground’. As the sea-spray splashes, salty and cool, in the Scarborough air, hundreds of Christians from across Yorkshire – and indeed the whole of the UK – will gather at The Spa this April. During our time of worship, teaching, communion, seminars, prayer and mission, we will be seeking to find our solid ground.
For the last three years it has been my pleasure to represent All We Can at ECG, a six-day event for all ages that brings around 1,000 Christians together to transform The Spa complex from a hotel to an expression of church for the twenty-first century.
This year, All We Can is delighted to be partnering with ECG to help deliver an exciting and inspiring programme, which will help people to (re)connect with the solid ground we have in our faith and look outwards towards the future ahead.
When I have had the privilege of travelling to meet people impacted by All We Can’s work, in both India and Zimbabwe, I met people whose futures were far from secure. To them, the uncertainties and frivolous things of a relatively comfortable Western life – the things that keep me awake at night – must feel a distant luxury. And yet, I’ve also met so many people with remarkable resilience and an incredible ability to find hope in the most challenging of circumstances.
Around the world, we are supporting brave, pioneering, inspiring people who are just looking for some solid ground, from which they can establish a secure future, a chance at certainty in an uncertain world.
At ECG this year, you’ll have the chance to hear some of these remarkable stories, and find out how each of us can be a part of making a difference. If you are coming along, look out for the All We Can seminar series, our exhibition stand, and an appearance on the main stage. Whether you are an ECG regular, or considering coming for the first time, we invite you to be a part of something special and discover your solid ground this year…
You can book tickets for the event, which runs 23-28th April.
I hope to see you in Scarborough!
