Angela Zamaere Smith

Interim CEO

a.zamaere@allwecan.org.uk

Angela joined All We Can in September 2014 as Director of Programmes & Partnerships. She has 29 years of experience in international development, NGO training, capacity development and organisation development practice. She holds a BSc in Industrial (Organisational) Psychology from the University of Malawi, and an MBA from the University of Leicester.

Angela was instrumental in designing and spearheading All We Can’s partnership approach which champions locally led development, the decolonisation of aid and puts communities and local people in the driving seat of their own transformation. This has been informed by her own experiences working in the development sector in Malawi. Angela began her career in disaster management, policy analysis and advocacy for EVARD, a local NGO, and then in organisational development practice for the Council of NGOs in Malawi and Concern Universal (now United Purpose) in a DfID funded NGO Capacity Development programme.

In 2001, Angela migrated to the United Kingdom from Malawi, and has worked with UK and US based organisations including Tearfund and Revenue Watch Institute (now Natural Resource Governance Institute - NRGI). Her work has ranged from roles in disaster risk management to extractive industry governance, working globally with relevant government departments, civil society organisations, legislators and other accountability actors including academia. Angela co-chaired the BOND ‘Supporting practice for locally led development’ working group for 2 years ending her tenure in June 2023. She has been a proponent of the Shift the Power movement – continuing to speak on these matters whilst also calling for a reimagined international development sector with like-minded organisations and funding agencies.

Angela is the chairperson of the Essex chapter of the diaspora organisation: Malawian Association, UK, is a Trustee for Pumpaid and Beyond Water; and is involved with various ministries at her church. She has 2 adult children and lives in Romford, Essex.
