In accordance with our Safeguarding Policy and Procedures, All We Can recognises the right of every person to live free from abuse and is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children, young people and adults-at-risk, recognising its responsibility to take all reasonable steps to promote safe practice and protect them from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation. All We Can also acknowledges its duty of care under the key current statutory legislation, and the responsibility to respond appropriately to any allegations, reports or suspicions of child, young person and adult-at-risk abuse.
All We Can works with international and local partners across the world who invariably engage with a large number of children, young people and adults-at-risk in a range of different settings. While acknowledging that local laws and customs may differ from one country to another, All We Can’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures serve as an illustrative guide to enable staff and its partners to make ethical decisions on safeguarding based on internationally agreed legal standards.
All We Can is committed to fostering a culture of safeguarding in its work with partner organisations overseas. To this end we make compliance to our safeguarding policy, procedures and code of conduct mandatory in all funding and capacity development agreements, which are signed by our partner management and governing board representatives on a yearly basis in line with their annual plans. In addition to this minimum requirement, All We Can provides support to these local organisations to develop their own safeguarding policies, procedures and codes of conduct as needed. All We Can provides safeguarding training for key staff from these local organisations and expects them to begin dialogue on these issues with the communities they serve.
Apart from compliance by our local implementing partners, all contractors, service providers (including consultants and local coordinators) working on behalf of All We Can also agree to adhere to our Safeguarding ethos and processes as part of their contracts.
In the UK, All We Can’s staff and volunteers are expected to follow All We Can’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) disclosure is required for all relevant All We Can members of staff and volunteers. In addition, All We Can follows Safer Recruitment principles and guidelines for all posts where contact with children and/or adults at risk is possible – this includes a full application process, interviewing candidates, taking up and verifying two satisfactory references, verifying qualifications, identity checks, and a full DBS check. Since 2021 All We Can has also been a part of The Inter-Agency Misconduct Disclosure Scheme – a scheme initiated to address the issue of known sexual abusers moving within and between humanitarian development and aid agencies. The scheme ensures development and aid agencies can effectively work together to share misconduct data between recruiting organisations and previous employers.
All We Can provides safeguarding training to all trustees, staff, interns, volunteers, representatives, associates, service contractors, consultants, guests as well as its international and local implementing partners. Training is delivered by an accredited trainer and certificates of attendance issued. New staff and board members joining All We Can subsequently will receive training as part of their induction processes. Training updates are carried out periodically and at a minimum every 3 years.
