We’ve learned that lifting people out of poverty blunts their potential to lift themselves out. So we partner with them as they end their own poverty.
And because partners know their communities best, programmes they deliver are as unique as they are. This means that there is a huge variety of activities we support: from bee-keeping to safeguarding, savings groups to vocational training, disability awareness and so many more. With your support, activities grow, adapt, and lead to even more new ideas - enabling long-lasting change.
Your ideas, too, are unique. But whether you have chosen to bake, roller-skate, run, craft, quiz or something else entirely, your efforts will help to provide the funds we need to continue this life-changing work.
In this guide you will find further inspiration, tips and tricks to optimise your fundraising and a list of everything you will need to get started.
We are always blown away by the creative fundraising ideas our amazing supporters come up with.
Just like All We Can do not tell our partners what they need to fulfil their potential, we won’t tell you what you need to do to fulfil yours.
But if you are looking for ideas there are examples and how-to guides on our website and here are just a few suggestions to get your creative juices flowing.
New spin on a classic - Add extra fun to a tried and tested bake sale by setting a theme and focusing cakes on international flavours, nostalgic ‘retro’ favourites, or decorating with cartoon characters, for example. You could also add variation and increase participation with a competition to ‘guess a secret ingredient’ or ‘name the flavour’.
Seasonal fundraisers - Could you organise an Easter Egg Hunt, Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, or Christmas gift-wrapping service. Seasonal events do well as they align with the emotions and traditions of the holidays and people are often in more of a spending mindset.
Fundraiser in a cost-of-living crisis - Instead of asking people for additional money, work together to save money and pledge the savings to All We Can. Perhaps you could reduce car journeys by arranging car shares, sacrifice a takeaway and eat together or you could arrange to buy certain items in bulk and share the cost.

Creating a fundraiser that also addresses another need or current focus, such as community engagement or environmental awareness, can significantly enhance its impact and appeal. What are the current priorities in your local community?
Quiz – Would you like to host an All We Can quiz event? You can download all the resources you need from our website, with ready prepared questions and audiovisuals to help you to share the stories of our partners with your quizzers and learn a bit more about what we do. You could sell tickets, collect donations or raise money with refreshments or a raffle.
Long-Term Fundraisers – Instead of a single fundraiser with a big push of energy, could you introduce something that continues to run throughout the year? Maybe you could sell second hand items or crafted gifts on a table in the church hall or community space and ask people for regular donations, hold a community supper or board games evening once a month for small donations or set up a film club.
Starting the year as we mean to go on, January is our fundraising focus at All We Can.
All We Canuary is more than a fundraising campaign — it’s a movement of people coming together to make a difference in the world through creativity, compassion, and community.
The idea is simple: Do all the ______ you can in January and raise funds for All We Can in the process. Be Creative! Baking, biking, busking or brainstorming your own unique way to raise funds…the blank space is yours to fill. You could choose something you love and collect sponsorship, use it to motivate a New Year’s resolution or as a push to do something new you’ve always wanted to try. Just give it your all and let people know why you are doing it – to support the incredible work of All We Can’s partners around the world. Your actions will help transform lives and bring hope where it is needed the most.
Find out more information and sign up here. You will receive resources and support from All We Can to help make your fundraising easy, effective and enjoyable and throughout the month we will keep you motivated with updates and inspiring stories from All We Can’s local partners.
You could set an individual challenge or form a group to share the workload, encourage one another and even to create some friendly competition.

If you don’t want to commit to a month-long challenge you could hold a one-off event during January which features doing the most of an activity that you can!
We offer charity spaces to participate in marathons and sponsored events. We’ll be with you every step of the way, and supply you with everything you need to make your challenge a success. From an All We Can t-shirt to fundraising guidance and on-the-day support, our dedicated team will be on hand to help.
You can check out any current opportunities here. Or you can get in touch to let us know about any events you have signed up to or are interested in.
We have also partnered with Elite Adventures, offering an exciting range of challenges to participate in whilst raising money for All We Can. These are organised events with experienced guides and range from conquering 8 peaks in the Lake District and coasteering along the Cornish coast, to once-in-a-lifetime experiences, such as climbing Snowdon at night to reach a stunning summit sunrise.
Head to www.eliteadventures.co.uk and check out their full range of Open Events and select All We Can as the charity you want to fundraise for. (Excludes the Lyke Wake Challenge, St James Way, National 3 Peaks and the National 3 Peaks in 3 Days, The Freedom Trail and the Welsh 3 Peaks).
Goals give you focus and a sense of achievement. For example:
£1200 could pay for a finance officer for a year for one of our partners in Sierra Leone
£600 could fund a year of environmental advocacy meetings between one of our partners in Uganda and local government
£240 could train staff at one of our partner organisations in Liberia in financial management and fundraising
£96 could pay for transportation of seeds to farmers in Ethiopia from our partner organisation providing improved seeds for more resilient crops.
£50 could purchase educational materials such as flash cards for our partner in Malawi.
These are examples of what the money you raise could help support. In order to have the greatest impact, the funds raised will be used wherever the need is greatest.

Did you know that setting a fundraising goal and showing progress makes you 35% more likely to reach and even exceed your target?
Setting an ambitious but realistic target is motivating for you and for your supporters and is one of the most effective strategies to boost the success of your efforts.
Let your potential supporters know what you’re aiming for and why their contribution matters.
Build momentum - Updates can also be really helpful as the closer you get to reaching your fundraising target, people will be motivated to help you reach it!
Fundraising campaigns often perform better when the organiser or a close supporter makes the initial donation, as it demonstrates commitment and motivates others to contribute. For example, JustGiving found that fundraisers who self-donate early can raise up to £800 more on average.
There are loads of ways to tell people about your fundraiser and you will get more visibility if you are able to promote across a variety of different platforms.
Think about who you are trying to reach. What are the types of communication that they are most likely to interact with? How could you catch their attention?
Word of mouth - This is a really effective way to get your message across and encourage support but it is time consuming. Consider gatherings of people where you may be able to speak to lots of people at once such as during notices at Church, or whilst at another community event.
Posters and Fliers – These are especially useful for local events. Look for local bulletin boards in cafes, post offices, community centres and supermarkets. You may also be able to find local groups who share digital bulletin boards or newsletters. You might find free online design tools such as Canva useful, or you can download promotional materials from our website.
Emails – This is an efficient and low-cost way to reach lots of contacts and can be an easy way to follow up on any communication. Aim to keep the email as personal as possible as this will likely increase responses.
Social media – Using social media is a popular and effective way to share information about fundraisers. Aim to be concise and direct about what you are asking people to do and then link to a longer explanation or more information if you have this accessible. A good tip is to create a digital poster or graphic with key information about your fundraiser, you can then share this on your church accounts (if applicable), on any relevant community pages and groups, and anyone involved would be able to share on their personal accounts if they wished.

Repetition is important. Aim to remind people about your plans on more than one occasion, particularly as you get closer to the event itself.
You can widen your reach and encourage additional support by asking other people - friends, family and local community members - to share the information too.
Here are some tips on how to make your fundraiser a huge success whilst limiting your impact on the planet:
- Use recycled and recyclable materials. For decorations you could make pom poms out of paper, use bunting made from scrap textiles such as old clothes or from paper, print signs and posters on recyclable paper without any lamination, decorate with plants or flowers from your garden or candles in glass jars for special effects.
- Avoid balloons as they cause litter when they pop and are hazardous to wildlife, bubbles are a great fun alternative.
- Prepare paper bags or recyclable wrapping items to avoid single use plastic bags.
- Use mugs or teacups instead of single use cups, recyclable straws, plastic free teabags and fairly traded ingredients whenever possible. If you need lots of cups, plates etc for your plans, try to borrow them or source them from charity shops instead of buying new
- Offer clearly marked bins or containers for recyclable waste collection. If your fundraiser is outdoors, bring a bin along with you so that no rubbish blows away.
- Avoid buying single-use items, items in unnecessary packaging or things that can be produced in a more sustainable way. The best way to spread the eco message is to lead by example and there are loads of alternatives available.
- Encourage your guests to find you via public transport and plan timings etc around making this more convenient if you are at all able, consider promoting special offers for anyone who car shares or walks to your event.
- Share details of your event and photos digitally where this is accessible to avoid excess printing.
- Decide what you want to do for your fundraiser
- Encourage others to join you
- Confirm the details of the event and check they fit around any other important dates or local events
- Plan opportunities to advertise and start sharing the news
- Think about creating an online presence with a giving page or social media campaign
- Prepare everything you need for the event including different ways in which people will be able to donate
- Send a reminder and/or update to possible supporters
- Hold your event
- Thank supporters and share your success
- Continue to collect any late funds
- Send the money you have raised to All We Can
- Be proud - Whether its £10 or £1,000 the money you have raised will help support partners all over the world that are tackling issues and making a huge difference in their local communities.

Where possible, please ask your supporters to gift-aid their donations. This gives us 25p extra per £1 donation – at no extra cost to our supporters. A £20 donation to All We Can is worth an extra £5. We claim this directly from HMRC, making gifts worth even more to the people we work with in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Online collection platforms will usually include this option or you can download a collection gift aid form from our website where you will also find more information and answers to FAQs.
We are so grateful for all the energy you put into supporting us. Please make sure you take time for a well-deserved celebration of your achievement and to reflect on the impact this will have for the partner organisations and communities we work with.
This is also a great time to share your success and any stories or pictures from your event with supporters. This will create a collective sense of achievement and build momentum for future support. It is a further opportunity to share your passion and remind people of the difference you are making.
