‘I made it in my mind that my family will never beg for food nor starve with hunger again!’

White is a farmer, husband, and father of eight in Fombe Village, where Eagles partners on Church and Community Transformation (CCT).
CCT works to empower local churches and communities to identify the issues affecting them and find solutions together to tackle them, ultimately improving their lives. This has helped many communities to change the way that they approach development on an individual, household, and community level.
In 2024 and 2025, unfavourable weather conditions in Fombe Village and beyond meant that communities that relied heavily on their farming could not harvest enough food. Individuals were left with too little or absolutely nothing from their yield. As per the purpose of the CCT, Eagles helped the community by providing resilient and early maturing seed to the farmers to better enable their farming to succeed.
White was one of the individuals impacted by the changing weather conditions.
When he was unable to harvest enough food to feed his family, he received 2kg of seed and was able to harvest 11 bags of 50 kg each on a plot size of half an acre. After harvesting, he was able to feed his family as well as keep some seed to plant again in the following year.
‘If I had not received the new seeds from Eagles, I would have had to find the money to buy them. EAGLES made my life easier by coming in with the seed for us. I didn’t have to worry anymore about buying the seed and, instead, I could focus my time and attention on the actual farming, which resulted in a harvest that was actually big enough.’
With the harvest he has been able to use, White is able to make a difference to his own family as well as the lives of those in his community:
‘I am one of the lead farmers in my village, so I need to be an example to others. This year, I will have enough food, which I will share with other vulnerable people in my village. We can also sell some, and the money will help me pay school fees for my children!’
White is a prime example of the impact that the CCT work can have on a community. With the help of resilient and early maturing seed, White has been able to see a huge transformation in his life:
‘I made it in my mind that my family will never beg for food nor starve with hunger again. This dream is a reality; we experienced it last year when I was able to harvest enough, and this year we will harvest enough again. Thanks to Eagles for providing the right seed last year and this year!’
