Malawi faced heavy rains and flooding between 15th and 18th March.

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) reported that a total of 9,598 households have been affected, with 128 households displaced.

There have been 13 deaths and 35 injuries recorded. 12 evacuation camps have been established across 6 councils.

On the rain and flooding, All We Can's Country Representative in Malawi, James Kalikwembe, said:

'Malawi experienced flash floods between 15th and 18th March 2026, which affected 16 councils across the country, damaging public infrastructure, people's houses, washing away crop fields and livestock.

A preliminary report from the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) indicated that a total of 9,598 households were affected, with 128 households displaced, 13 deaths recorded and 35 people injured.

Secondary effects of the flooding are likely to include increased food insecurity and exposure to outbreaks of waterborne diseases as a result of the washing away of crop fields and contamination of water points by floodwaters, respectively. This will further exacerbate the poor health and socioeconomic status of the rural populace affected.'

Please join us as we pray for those impacted by the rain and flooding:

God of all seasons,

We bring before you the people of Malawi,

especially those affected by the recent floods.

For all who mourn the loss of loved ones, homes, or harvests,

Bring your deep comfort and your sustaining provision.

For those who are injured or traumatised,

extend your healing hand and restore them to wholeness.

Be a fortress for every community in harm’s way.

Strengthen their resilience, protect them from further danger,

and surround them with compassion and practical help.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.
